Covers lodging, meals, program materials, leadership activities, and all camp experiences.

🌟 Who Can Attend RYLA?

RYLA brings together students from diverse educational backgrounds and work experiences, connecting them with respected community leaders and professionals. Through interactive sessions, hands-on activities, and guided discussions, participants learn strategies for navigating future challenges and seizing new opportunities.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Open to rising high school Juniors and Seniors
  • Applicants should hold a leadership position or demonstrate an interest in growing and displaying leadership qualities
  • Candidates may be:
     
    • Relatives of Rotarians
    • Foreign exchange students
    • Previous RYLA participants or recipients

During RYLA, participants engage in meaningful discussions, hands-on workshops, and leadership activities designed to build confidence, communication skills, and personal insight. You will have the opportunity to:

  • Share and explore new ideas
  • Enhance communication skills to improve relationships with family, friends, peers, and your community
  • Gather innovative concepts for leadership development and successful business strategies
  • Network with positive, motivated leaders from across the region
  • Explore family dynamics, interpersonal relationships, and personal values
  • Gain a deeper understanding of yourself and others
  • Learn about Rotary’s mission, purpose, and service in the community
  • Develop problem-solving and conflict-management techniques to use in real-life situations

What happens at ryla:

RYLA students attend an all-expense-paid, four-day leadership event designed to expand their perspectives, strengthen their character, and help them discover their full potential. Throughout the program, participants learn about themselves, discuss leadership principles, and put those skills into practice through hands-on activities.

Students are selected by high school counselors and local Rotary Clubs based on their strong leadership potential. Those chosen take part in an exciting, immersive program focused on:

  • Relationship building
  • Communication skills
  • Leadership development
  • Teamwork
  • Self-discovery

The RYLA program is held on the campus of the University of South Alabama in Mobile, providing a dynamic and engaging environment for learning, growth, and connection.

Welcome Rotary Youth Leadership Award Participants (RYLAtarians)!

Congratulations on receiving a Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) Camp Scholarship! You have been selected by your community Rotary Club in District 6880 for your outstanding leadership potential. It is quite an honor to represent your community and Rotary Club with  other students from SOUTH ALABAMA.

Start: Camp RYLA registration is scheduled for Sunday, JuNE 7 from 1:00  to 2:30 p.m. 

Where:
University of SOUTH ALABAMA
307 North university blvd, mobile, al  RESIDENCE HALL.

What: The Camp will officially start at 2:30 p.m. with a Welcome Ceremony and an action-packed, fun-filled 4 days to follow. 

End: Camp RYLA will end thursday, June 11 at 11:00 a.m. Pick-up location is the same as drop-off

We want you to get the most out of your RYLA experience; therefore, please plan to limit cell phone use to scheduled breaks/free time and refrain from using cell phones during all-camp sessions. 

What to Expect:

The camp will be a fun experience with various activities planned: discussion groups, presenters, outdoor activities & games, skits and a talent show, team challenges, etc.

What to Bring: 

You will spend the 4 days in one of the Usa residence halls with 2-4 other campers. All rooms used during camp are air-conditioned and there are refrigerators and microwaves available in the residence halls. Please plan to bring your own sheets, blankets and pillow for a bed, size TwinXL, (non-fitted twin sheets or full-sized sheets work!).  

You will be required to pay a $40.00 CASH deposit for your room key. Please bring the EXACT AMOUNT, as we will not be able to make change. We will refund the full deposit when you return the key at the conclusion of the camp. If you drive your own vehicle to the camp, staff will collect your car keys when you arrive and return them to you at the end of the camp.

Pre-Work

In order to maximize the time we have together we ask that the following items are completed prior to your arrival at camp.

  1. Medical and Liability Waiver: The form is 4 pages long including a LIABILITY RELEASE, WAIVER, AND MEDICAL AUTHORIZATION You and your parents/guardians will need to complete and sign.

Due before camp arrival:

  1. Myers Briggs:  Prior to coming to camp you need to complete this short online questionnaire we’ll use during the week. It will take about 5-10 minutes to complete. We recommend you complete the questionnaire in a setting that you feel comfortable in with minimal distractions. There are no wrong answers!
